Tax cuts 'key component' of post-virus economic plan

The government has confirmed it intends to go ahead with legislated tax cuts, with Trade Minister Simon Birmingham telling Sky News the cuts are a “key component” of the Coalition’s post-coronavirus plan.

Assistant Treasurer Micheal Sukkar on Tuesday told Sky News the government would not “walk away” from the tax cuts – due to be passed onto taxpayers in 2022 and 2024 – despite concerns coronavirus stimulus has blown out the budget bottom line.

Mr Birmingham agreed with the Assistant Treasurer, saying “crucially those tax cuts that we have already legislated will be a key component of ensuring that Australian households and the economy is at well placed as possible to grow in the years ahead”.
